Abstract: In Italy, the ecological status of water bodies is evaluated using the LIMeco index, which summarizes four variables: ammoniacal nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen, total phosphorus, and dissolved oxygen.
This study investigates how various anthropic pressures and meteoclimatic conditions affect each LIMeco component within the Piedmont river network.
To account for the spatial complexity of the system, we adopt a spatially varying coefficient linear regression model on the network, estimated nonparametrically.
